MILK RAS BEST YOUNG RIDER AWARD. Following the upgrading of the FBD MILK RAS to the select International Calendar of Events, carrying qualification points for Olympic Games and World Cycling Championships, comes another first for the race with the introduction of a Best Young Rider Classification.
To bring the race into line with most major international stage races, Dermot Dignam, Race Organiser, has announced that the best placed rider under 23 years of age will be honoured each day by receiving the distinctive White Jersey of Leadership of the Classification.
The White Jersey now joins the Yellow, Green and Polka-Dot Jerseys of Race Leadership, Points Leader and King of the Mountains Leader respectively and will be a major incentive to up and coming young riders.
The new Classification will be closely identified with the Irish Sports Council which grant-aids the race. Sports Council Chief Executive, John Treacy, said he is pleased the Sports Council is associated with recognition of developing talent and praised the National Dairy Council and FBD Insurance for their continued sponsorship of this great cycling event.
The race starts in Navan on Sunday 20th May and after eight grueling days of racing finishes in Dublin City Centre on Sunday 27th May. Stage end towns include Ballaghadereen, Portumna, CastleIsland, Killorglin, Skibbereen, Dungarvan and Bunclody.
